About SLO Green Build

We who live in San Luis Obispo County consider it one of the most precious places on earth. We treasure the natural environment with its clean air, rugged coast line, rolling hills, productive ranches and farmland, and open spaces.  Since the built environment can have one of the most dramatic impacts upon our natural surroundings, we at SLO Green Build work to encourage the use of the most sustainable development methods and greenest building materials possible.

VISION AND MISSION
In late 2004, a small group of professionals from the design and construction industries and advocates of environmental and social services came together to promote sustainable development and green building here on the Central Coast. Their efforts quickly coalesced around the notion of creating an inclusive and apolitical organization to focus on these issues. By spring 2005, this grass-roots campaign took shape in the form of the non-profit SLO Green Build with a shared Vision that in a sustainable future, every building is a green building, and a common Mission:
  • To promote sustainable building techniques that minimize construction waste, build healthier indoor environments, and reduce energy use while conserving natural resources
  • To provide architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and other building professionals with the proper tools to build sustainable projects
  • To support and help develop public policy that advocates sustainable architectural, social, and building practices
SLO Green Build’s work is driven by this Mission and is directed and overseen by an independent, volunteer Board of Directors and Executive Committee. SLO Green Build is a 501c3 non-profit organization.

On-going strategic actions are organized and carried out by Key Departments (Government, Industry, Public) and Support Departments (Marketing and Administration). Each Department is made up of volunteer Teams.

Specific one-time programs are organized around and carried out by Task Forces.
